Social Media, Business and a Little Thing Called Transparency
In previous entries, I talked a little bit about how various forms of social media could help a struggling business by spreading the word. The response I received was so great that I began to look at what I had said in order to find ways in which I could fine-tune the information. Those of you who have read the previous stuff will find this more supplementary than anything else but I encourage you to stick around. Never hurts to go for extra credit.
As we mentioned before, it really doesn’t matter who or what your business is. It doesn’t matter if you are Home Depot, Calvin Klein or even Alberta Energy – you need a website and you need to promote your actions. This includes providing headlines to your clientele on things like the latest product launches, sales events, humanitarian aid, etc. In a sense, there needs to be a certain level of transparency when you talk about your business on Twitter, MySpace or even Facebook. Transparency is what helps your clients feel like you are on their side. Just remember to set some boundaries and make sure you draw the line between transparency and career suicide. Don’t say too much, but don’t let your customers think, for even a second, that you are holding out on them.
